After receiving an enormous amount of spam comments I decided to look for another commenting system to use.
I came across LiveFyre and I have to say, so far I really like it!
What sets LiveFyre apart from some of the other commenting systems I’ve used is that it’s truly integrated with social media.
Users can login with their Facebook, Twitter, Google, Linkedin or OpenID account.
At first I that this would cause people to not want to leave a comment but it hasn’t been a problem at all. Because all you have to do is click on the social site you want to login as.
Here are some of the features of LiveFyre
- Comments show up on your blog in real time. No need to refresh the page.
- You can tag your Twitter followers, Facebook friends and LiveFyre members in your comments.
- When you tag someone they are notified via email and the comment they were tagged in will show up on their Twitter page and or Facebook wall.
- They can reply to your comment directly from Twitter and Facebook and their reply will automatically be pulled into your blog comments.
- A list of people “Listening” or following the conversation but my not have necessarily added a comment.
- Registered users receive points whenever someone else “Likes” your comment.
- Share’s a link to your most recent blog post when you leave a comment.

What I’ve Discovered Since Switching To LiveFyre
The biggest benefits I’ve seen since making the switch, has been an increase in my blog traffic and the increase in how much my content is being shared on FaceBook and Twitter.
(Speaking of Twitter, Check out this post to see “How To Create Leads Right From My Twitter Profile“)I’ve also noticed that I have received a fair amount of people coming to my blog that may not have found it, had it not been for the increase in sharing of my content.
One thing that I was concerned about was, would I lose some or all of my current comments, if I discovered that I did not like LiveFyre and wanted to switch back to CommentLuv which is want I was previously using.
The answer is no! I did not lose any. I activated and deactivated the plugin several times and had no problems.
One issue I discovered…. After you leave your very first comment. LiveFyre will select a link to one of your blog’s pages instead of to your latest blog post to display. If you look at the image above near the bottom of the image, you can see what I’m talking about. LiveFyre has added a link to my “Contact” page….
But this will correct itself once you add a new blog post.
LiveFyre is free and gives you 2 million views a month. There is a upgraded version 20 million views and some other benefits. You can click here to compare the two versions.
Installing LiveFyre
Install the LiveFyre plugin is very simple. You install it just as you would any other WordPress plugin.- Log into your WordPress admin area,
- Click on the “Plugins” tab a long the left side of the screen,
- Click Add new,
- Type LiveFyre in the search box
- Select the plugin from the list of responses
- Click install
Conclusion
There are a number of good WordPress comment system plugins out there: CommentLuv, Disqus and others. I’ve tried the others but they did not solve a problem I was having and that was comment spam…. LiveFyre has!
That’s why I switched. It may not be right for you and your situation but I encourage you to at least try it.
As always, I would love to hear your thoughts on this topic. Please share your comments and if you found this post to be of any value to you, please share it with others.

@anthonymcneil @Dhara Mistry @johngaydon Just had to say … I’ve seen LiveFyre reply on several comments, they take problems seriously. … I only wish I knew if it was possible to have the checkmark boxes below automatically checked so that my commenters had to UNcheck them …

@KimiSharp @anthonymcneil @johngaydon Hey Kim, at the moment, we do not have a way to do that. But, it is something that has occurred to us before. We might add an option for site owners in the future. We appreciate your feedback guys. Feel free to send any other our way. We’ll be happy to listen!

Livefyre is not much different from Intense Debate and Disqus. I like that you can sign in with Twitter, FB, and other places. However, it was no longer something for me. I used Intense Debate for 2 years and loyally used it and contributed ideas and suggestions. However, it is a bit bulky and sometimes the syncing is not that great. I decided to let my site work my comments for me and installed Commentluv Premium. I have since made suggestions for CommentLuv Premium and hope those are taken into consideration for future updates.
Livefyre is a good tool and I would not discredit it. I think it is one of those things bloggers can prefer to use versus other comment systems. :)
anthonymcneil|10:22, 25. January, 2012
@blondishnetblondishnet Nile I’m not familiar with Intense Debate. But seeing how I value your opinion I don’t think I’m being trying it anytime soon given the problems you listed.
I was using CommentLuv but I wanted something a bit more Socially integrated and I think I’ve found it with live . If I may ask, what suggestion did you make regarding CL?
SherrylPerry|12:21, 27. January, 2012
Anthony,
Thanks for the review. Like Nile, I use CommentLuv Premium. There are days when I am discouraged by spammy comments but I do like the ability to remove individual links and do-follow tags. The problem is that it can be time consuming. No one commenting system will meet the needs of everyone. Livefyre is definitely a contender and I do appreciate reading an unbiased review.

@SherrylPerry keepupweb Hello Sherry, thank you for sharing your comment. Time is our most precious asset and the last thing I want to spend it on is deleting some knuckle head’s spam from my blog.
I don’t know how much longer I can remain unbiased LOL because since switching I have not had one spam comment left on my blog…. But it is still early!
anthonymcneil|0:11, 28. January, 2012
@KeepUpWeb Thank you Sherryl!

@KeepUpWeb You’re welcome! I agree there’s nothing wrong with good conversation and making people think…. Expanding their minds!
